Mid-Year Check-in

Well, it's that time of year. The mid-point, I mean.

We moved in May, I cried on my birthday for the fourth year in a row, and now we're in a historic heat wave during a drought. Things aren't exactly looking up. But let's see where we're at goal-wise and see if maybe that's going okay, even if everything else isn't.

WRITING GOALS

Update at least 2 writing projects and write at least one poem - no progress here, although weirdly my older work has been getting attention from readers again? So I guess that's something?

READING GOALS

Read 35 books, plays, and/or poetry collections - so far I'm at 20 books, 1 graphic novel, 3 poetry collections, and 3 plays, so this one is going surprisingly well. I'm about 100 pages into my 21st book.

Focus on reading more poetry collections and plays - I'm doing it, guys! Going through my play collection before the move and picking a few to read and then donate to free up space helped a lot.

Maintain more of a balance between nonfiction and fiction - Looking at books (not counting poetry, graphic novels, or plays) my current ratio is 13:7 in favor of fiction, which is actually pretty good for this time of year. I've been in more of a fiction mood lately but I do have some nonfiction queued up, so I think it will balance out more by the end of the year.

ACTING GOALS

Audition at least 1 time this year - I don't know about this one. There's a potential audition I could go to in July, but I'm not super interested in the play itself. Even though I could technically audition anyway and just decline if I get an offer, I feel like that would be a waste of the company's time.

Prepare new audition monologues - None of the plays I read had any monologues I would use (woman in acting problems, lol) but we'll see if I can find something soon.

PERSONAL GOALS

I'm just going to list these here:
  • Increase yearly income - Lol as if
  • Walk 5+ miles a day, 6-7 days a week - I miss getting 6-7 miles in every day like I was Jan-May; there's zero walkability where we live now so I have to either hope we can go somewhere in the evening or make do pacing around the apartment until I hit 5 miles.
  • Keep a weekly cleaning schedule - really need to re-work this for the new space
  • Continue to post a blog post once or more a month - at least I'm consistent with this
  • Make at least 5 collages, finish at least 2 puzzles, and complete at least 1 craft - so far I've made 4 collages, zero puzzles (I helped my mom + sisters do a puzzle while staying at their house during the Big Snow, but I don't know if that counts), and no crafts yet.
  • Prayer journal at least once a month - I got too depressed because there was so many horrible things to write down so I haven't gone back to it
  • Watch at least 20 Asian dramas - We're 2 episodes into our 12th for the year, so we're on track. Thank God--it's one of the only good parts of the day. Some minor goals:
    • Watch at least one Asian drama from the 1990s - not yet
    • Watch at least one Asian drama from the 2000s (before the 2010s) - done! Ghost Friends is a Japanese drama from 2009.
    • End the year with a country of origin majority that is not South Korea (or a tie between South Korea and another country, if more feasible) - working on it--so far Japan is in the lead with 4 dramas (followed by China with 2, South Korea with 2, Thailand with 1, Vietnam with 1, the Philippines with 1, and Taiwan with 1).
  • Cook at least 3 meals I've never cooked before - Done! I made focaccia from scratch for the first time last week and it went okay. 3 hours is a bit more than I want to spend on dinner though, haha.
