Mid-Year Goals Check-in
Life is in shambles. Let's check on the yearly goals.
WRITING GOALS
Update at least 3 working projects. Write at least one poem. - well, I haven't written any poems, and I've only worked on one writing project (that isn't even publicly posted) and that was in April. Gotta get back into the swing of things here...
READING GOALS
Read at least 35 books, plays, and/or poetry collections. - As of May 31, I've read 13 books and 1 poetry collection, so things are looking okay (but could be better). One of my focuses was to pick books that encourage cultural competency or teach me something new since last year was pretty fluff-heavy, and I'm not totally sure how I'm doing in that regard since I've only read 2 nonfiction books so far. We did get a ton of books from the library sale (some nonfiction) so maybe I will dip into those. Finally, I also acquired my own library card instead of just mooching off of my sister, so that's a win.
Focus on reading more poetry collections and plays. - Still only the one so far. I have a folder of plays available to me, but I was taught in college to always read plays in one sitting to best emulate how you would access the work if you were watching it be performed. For some reason, that makes the act of reading them feel more daunting than it should.
Maintain more of a balance between nonfiction and fiction - See above.
ACTING GOALS (if COVID safety measures allow)
Audition at least 3 times this year - auditioned once in January and once in February; so 2/3 of the way there. We'll see if I can squeeze another one in during the fall.
Get a callback at least twice - One callback down.
Perform at least once - Check! Just completed readings for Waterworks 2025, and I think they went pretty well considering.
PERSONAL GOALS
- Initiate more contact with friends, especially ones who live far away - have not been good at this at all. I'm sorry friends; I will do better.
- Increase yearly income - LOL. If you know, you know.
- Walk 4+ miles a day, 6-7 days a week - This has been going even better than last year, even though I was satisfied with where I was at then. Since April, I have been averaging a higher step count (12,000-15,000) than my usual standard (10,000). Current goals are to burn between 300-400 active calories and 1,650-1,800 total calories each day, and so far I've been hitting those goals despite a lot of scheduling and weather issues. Hopefully I can keep it up.
- Keep a weekly cleaning schedule - Omg I've been terrible at this. The new vacuum helps a lot but I have been slacking for sure.
- Continue to post a blog post once or more a month - Check!
- Make at least 1 collage, finish at least 2 puzzles, and complete at least 1 craft - haven't done a single one of these. :(
- Prayer journal at least once a month - Literally not even once. I pray constantly throughout the day so it's not a huge deal, but I do want to get back into sitting down and formally recording it all on paper again.
- Watch at least 20 Asian dramas - My sister (TV buddy) and I are admittedly not as far as we usually like to be around this time, but that's just the consequence of being so busy, I guess. We just finished our eighth drama of the year and will probably start #9 tomorrow, so hopefully we can get back on track. As far as the minor goals:
- Watch at least one Asian drama from the 1990s - not yet, but soon
- Watch at least one Asian drama from the 2000s (before the 2010s) - almost (closest this year was from 2013), but again, hopefully soon
- End the year with a country of origin majority that is not South Korea (or a tie between South Korea and another country, if more feasible) - we are looking good on this one! Only one so far has been from South Korea (11.1%); and as of this month we are looking at a three way tie between a Japanese, Thai, and Taiwanese majority (22.2% each). I don't know how things might change before the end of the year, but I feel pretty confident that we can reach this goal.
- Cook at least 3 meals I've never cooked before - Check! I do not enjoy cooking but as the sole chef in the household it is unfortunately my burden, lol.
