Unique Fundie Baby Names

Let's go down one of my favorite rabbit holes: fundie families! Fundies have entered the public eye through media, specifically tv shows such as Bringing Up Bates, 19 Kids and Counting, Sister Wives, My Five Wives, Three Wives One Husband, and Escaping Polygamy. Because fundies encourage having as many kids as possible, that means that they are well-known for unique or ancient names to avoid having fifteen family members named John and Rachel (although many do reuse names, especially Biblical classics). So, I thought I'd make a fun little master post of some of the most unique ones for y'all. :) Some of them I like, some I don't, but I'm not gonna post those judgments here, haha. 

Some I also chose not to include because while they aren't super common names, I've heard them before: D'Artagnan, Bridger, Enoch, Hampton, Jinger, Jubilee, Shalom, Baylor, Israel, Hosea, Remington, Rensley). Some I also left out because they are popular names in a country that is not the U.S, so although they were unfamiliar to me, they weren't actually "uncommon". 


For those who have never heard the term, "fundie" refers to a fundamentalist person (usually a Christian) "who reduces religion to strict interpretation of core or original texts." Most fundies subscribe to a specific sect of Christian faith and may identify as Mormon, Baptist or Penetecostal, although many identify as Independent Baptist. The term "fundies" also incorporates members of more strict Christian groups and/or cults (IUB, ATI, FLDS). The majority of fundies engage in unique lifestyle practices, which may include women wearing only skirts/dresses and refraining from cutting their hair, men and women covering the shoulders/knees, not kissing before marriage, arranged marriage/polygamy, not practicing birth control in an attempt to have as many children as possible, homeschooling/refraining from pursuing secular education, and focusing on living a debt-free lifestyle. 

Their beliefs mean fundies look at life through a binary-heavy lens (two sexes, gender roles, complementarianism, heteronormativity, etc). For that reason, people below are referred to withe gendered terms such as "sons" and "daughters" or "husbands" and "wives".
